The courses
What is the technical difficulty level of la Veni Vici?
Don’t worry: we are organizers who like to share their beautiful playground and are anything but sadistic! While some may suffer on the Veni due to lack of training, a too-fast start, a bad day… open your eyes and toes wide. You will be following one of the most remarkable structures in the world, inherited from ancient builders: the Nîmes aqueduct, built 2,000 years ago. Unique and magical. We could have added more elevation gain, more technicality, more… STOP. We settled for tracing what we thought was the most BEAUTIFUL in the area around the Roman aqueduct, with a maximum of variety on the proposed routes.
In terms of route, la Veni Vici is a real cure for boredom: it turns, it goes up (a little, but never for long), it goes down (a little, sometimes often), it’s sometimes rolling (not too much though), it’s technical just enough, with very little asphalt, in a privileged environment.
Starting from Nîmes the Roman city or from the Pont du Gard (depending on the chosen format), you will travel back in time through the fragrant scrubland, cross preserved villages in the Gard region, and marvel at the Roman genius, until the grand finale: the arrival in the very pretty medieval Duchy of Uzès, the starting point of the Roman aqueduct of Nîmes 2,000 years ago. In terms of visual and leg pleasure, you will be royally served!
Is la Veni Vici a real trail or rather a sequence of small roads and paths like on the SaintéLyon?
Despite its rolling profile (1850 M+, a trifle, right?), la Veni Vici is sneaky. Watch out for speeding in the first few kilometers after leaving Nîmes. Because it’s going to be a festival of ups and downs in the first two-thirds of the race to the Pont du Gard, with at least 90% of the route on paths, mostly nervous and playful single track. The passages on asphalt will be limited to crossing villages and finishing in the narrow streets of Uzès. And then, the wilderness, the wonderful smell of thyme in the middle of the scrubland… You will have to savor and fully exhaust yourself on the trail of the ancient builders, young centurion!
Is there a minimum level of running or trail experience required?
NO, la Veni Vici is absolutely not reserved for experienced competitors: even novice runners have their place, without any time limits on the 13 km and 27 km courses, to fully enjoy the routes. The courses are fully marked and secured, without any overly technical sections. And if running really scares you, you can always opt for the 27 km nordic walking or the 13 km hiking format (which replaces the old “gourmet walk”). It is precisely this variety of options that makes la Veni Vici so popular.
The 13 km run (loop around the Pont du Gard site) in particular is accessible even to people who have never worn a bib in their life (most people end up hooked). This will give you some muscle soreness on J+2, but that’s what motivates you, right? 😉
Are there time barriers?
There will only be time barriers for runners participating in the 72 km and 44 km races. The title of “finisher” in la VENI VICI is earned, but don’t panic, the time barriers are very lenient (to say the least), to bring as many participants back home as possible, and to allow them to progress without the fear of being cut off, which can sometimes spoil the fun.
> For the 72 km race: two time barriers (eliminatory) will be put in place at the Pont du Gard (km 44.4) and at the Argilliers aid station (km 58.3) based on an average speed of 5.4 km/h. This means a maximum effective running time of 8 hours and 13 minutes at the Pont du Gard (aid station) and 10 hours and 48 minutes at Lédenon (aid station).
> For the 44 km race: one time barrier (eliminatory) will be put in place at the Lédenon aid station (km 29.1) based on an average speed of 5.1 km/h. This means a maximum effective running time of 5 hours and 43 minutes at Lédenon (aid station 2).
> For the other formats (27 km run and Nordic walking, 13 km run and hiking): go at your own pace and open your eyes wide to fully enjoy the courses through our superb landscapes and the Roman heritage of the Gard region.
The complete regulations for la VENI VICI 2023 are available here
What is the exact elevation gain for each route?
Subject to minor changes based on possible adjustments to the routes, the elevations are as follows (note: do not rely on the elevation information on the Openrunner tracks, which are incorrect):
– 72 km (Nîmes > Pont du Gard > Uzès): 1850 M+
– 44 km (Nîmes > Pont du Gard): 1200 M+
– 27 km run & nordic walk (Pont du Gard > Uzès): 640 M+
– 13 km run and hike (loop on the Pont du Gard site): 340 M+
> For more informations about the courses, it’s here
Is there a detailed map of the courses?
Yes, every 2023 courses (exepct the 13 km) are avalaible there
how many aid stations are there on the routes
– On the 72 km route: 4 refreshment stations (food and drinks) every 15 km approximately + complete refreshment station with draft beer/lemonade at the finish line.
– On the 44 km route: 2 refreshment stations (food and drinks) every 15 km + complete refreshment station with draft beer/lemonade at the finish line.

My participation / Trail week-end
Where is the Pont du Gard located?
Well, we’ll forgive your geographical approximations if you’re from far away. But we’re still talking about a major tourist site in France, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site! For 2000 years, the Pont du Gard has been located halfway between the beautiful Roman city of Nîmes (27 km away) and Avignon (21 km away).
For more information, take a look over there, , it’s perfectly explained. If you choose to use a car, consider carpooling by checking out our Facebook space or BlablaCar.
Where can I pick up my race bib?
It’s easy to pick up your race bib: it takes place in the reception buildings of the Pont du Gard Site on the right bank (Remoulins side). Please note that both Pont du Gard parking lots (right bank and left bank towards Vers-Pont-du-Gard) will be free all day on Friday, November 10th, 2023..
Bib pick-up hours
The bib pick-up will take place in two stages on the Pont du Gard Site (right bank reception):
- Friday, November 10th, 2023, from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm.
- Saturday, November 11th, 2023, starting at 6:00 am (up to 30 minutes before the start of your race, with a maximum limit of 2:00 pm for the 27 km run).
Piece of advice: prioritize picking up your bib on Friday (the day before the race), considering the expected high turnout. Note that you can send someone in your place, who will just need to present your bib pick-up card that will be sent to you by email on Tuesday, November 7th, 2023, four days before your participation.

FOR INDIVIDUAL PICK-UP:
> You must present your bib pick-up card, which will be sent to you by email four days before the event (Tuesday, November 7, 2023), either printed out or on your smartphone (check your spam folder if you haven’t received it). Become a volunteer
Is la Veni Vici looking for volunteers?
YES-YES-YES! It’s really kind of you to offer, as we have many needs for volunteers: on the race courses, for bib collection, refreshments, and the start-finish areas. We have many interesting tasks to offer you to experience the event from the inside and contribute to its success.
